This is a great example of a double-breasted Federal army greatcoat. I believe it was made for a cavalry officer as it was tailored without the cape, rear cloth adjustment belt, and employed a wool lining made from a navy blue Army blouse. The coat's interior bears the stencil of the State of New York (S.N.Y.) One button is missing, there are several small moth holes, and a few stitches are broken--but overall the garment is in excellent condition. A great example of a Federal overcoat.
